The alternative to using fopen() in PHP is to use the cURL library. You can find instructions and examples of how to use it at http://au.php.net/curl

I noticed that requires allow_url_fopen this solution.
Unfortunately, this is not safe for the Joomla CMS.

Is there a solution to the allow_url_fopen does not need?

1. Download the file (skype_on_ssl.zip)
2. Extract the ZIP file
3. Open the ‘insert_code.txt’ in Notepad, and change the 2 occurences of ‘YOUR_USERNAME’ to your Skype username.
4. Save ‘insert_code.txt’
5. Upload the ‘skype’ folder to your webserver
6. Now copy all of the text from ‘insert_code.txt’ and overwrite your existing Skype web status button on your secure webpage
7. Done!
